Elton John said it ( First Episode At Hienton, c.1970) “Seasons come and seasons go. Bring forth the rain, sun and snow.” Centuries before Solomon observed it as the wisdom of God: “For everything there is a season, and a time for every matter under heaven: a time to be born and a time to die.” (Ecc. 3:1-2a) The fruit in the vineyard is gone now. It was a great harvest – much fruit, good fruit, fruit that will last. Now the leaves are fading fast. A new season has come. For my brother Roy Lowe it is the season of rest from his labor and entrance into Glory. He bore much fruit, lasting fruit for the Kingdom of God. His friendship nurtured my life for twenty years; watering it with tears and enriching it with laughter, wisdom and compassion. Roy was well enough to vacation in Colorado in July with his life’s partner Kayline. While there they enjoyed Paul Simon at Red Rocks. “The nearer your destination, the more you’re slip sliding away”. Roy knew then. Roy was unafraid. He used to sing at every Easter sunrise community service: “Jesus is my morning sun.” Thank the Lord for his grace! On the same self titled album in 1970, Elton John also sang : “So much excitement yesterday, must be rewarded, be displayed…. This is your brand new brother!” (The Greatest Discovery) What a thrill to see my first grandchild greet her brand new brother, Cullen Haynes Clayton, last Wednesday. I wish I’d had the chance to share pictures with Roy. May Cullen’s life bear as much fruit.
