Who We Are

We are a gathering of God’s people from around the community of greater Bartow and surrounding cities. We are a multicultural congregation; male and female; young and old; we’re all here. Baptist, Catholic, Methodist, Pentecostal, and Presbyterian are the faith and worship traditions we’ve come from. Lifelong Christian, growing disciple, new believer, seeker, and skeptic describe where we are on our faith journey.  Connecting, supporting, learning, singing, praying, listening, serving, belonging are why we’ve come together.  We are one part of God’s family called First Presbyterian Church of Bartow and we welcome you and invite you to join us!

The congregation of First Presbyterian Church of Bartow has been sharing Christ with our community and beyond for 134 years!  In 1882, Rev. William Gordon Flagler Wallace, a circuit riding minister for the Presbyterian Church U.S. (South), gathered six other believers to establish Bartow’s First Presbyterian Church.  Follow this link to read more of our Church History.

We believe what every Christian believes:  There is one God who gave his one Son who died on one cross to save all people for one purpose – to glorify God and enjoy him forever!

As Presbyterians there are some additional beliefs that are important to us: that God is absolutely sovereign; that we are saved only by God’s grace; that the Bible is our only authority for what we believe and how we are to live; and that all Christians are ministers of God’s grace.

We are one part of God’s family called First Presbyterian Church of Bartow and we welcome you here!

The mission of First Presbyterian Church of Bartow is helping people to:

  • experience a personal relationship with Jesus Christ,
  • grow in faith,
  • live their lives in loving relationship with Christ, and
  • minister to those outside the Christian faith.

This mission grows out of who we are and what we believe.  We provide worship, mission, and programs that help fulfill these four purposes.  In addition to the Sunday schedule, we provide small groups that meet in homes for support, prayer, study and fellowship; weekly men’s Bible study breakfast; monthly men’s fellowship cookout; women’s Bible study groups that meet weekly in the morning and bi-weekly in the evening; monthly couples’ fellowship and an annual marriage enrichment retreat.  There are opportunities for mission service through local service projects sponsored by the church, Grace diner – a weekly meal ministry for the needy of our community, the Angel Tree Christmas Program, and annual mission trips.  Ministries for youth and young children are provided through our Phoenix Youth Ministries Bible study and supper for youth 6th-12th grades and our Kids’ Choir program on Wednesday afternoons, which includes the Children’s Choir, Bible lessons, recreation and snack.  We want to make sure that even the youngest family member is included in the mission of First Presbyterian Church.  We are glad to include you too!
